Josh and Desiree Kuberski, along with Paul and Christina Kuberski and family, have built a new 2,480 head pig barn to grow their farm further into the livestock industry. The Kuberskis have been farming in Perry County for six generations.
The Kuberski family is the definition of a team. Paul and Christina are fortunate to have their family involved on the farm. That includes twin sons Josh (wife Desiree) and Zach, along with their sister Mara.
The ground that this new barn sits on has been in the Kuberski family for over 90 years. Some of the neighboring land, that will receive manure as fertilizer, has been in their name for 115 years. Their legacy and commitment to agriculture shines through.
Josh is proud to be involved in the addition of pigs to the farm. He says, “after we graduated college, I was able to farm full time. I have been around animals my entire life, and always enjoy receiving new life onto the farm.”
The family decided to become a production partner with The Maschhoffs to help secure a future for their family farm. Josh added that “grain markets can be a high and low roller coaster but becoming a partner will bring more of a steady cash flow into our business.”
Over time, the pork industry has become quite technology-savvy. A new finishing barn is designed to have accurate ventilation that keeps the pigs comfortable during various weather seasons. The control system runs the feed augers, water, curtains, and fans. It even sends phone alerts to the farmer if any levels become questionable.
The Illinois Livestock Development Group (ILDG) and the Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) coordinate open houses to give the community an opportunity to tour livestock barns before the pigs move in. ILDG is a coalition of Illinois ag groups committed to expanding and growing the livestock industry. ILDG members include: IL Beef Association, IL Corn Marketing Board, IL Farm Bureau, IL Milk Producers’ Association, IL Pork Producers Association, and IL Soybean Association checkoff program.
The Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) represents more than 1,600 pork producers throughout Illinois and the Illinois pork industry, which contributes more than $13.8 billion and more than 57,000 jobs to the state’s economy (related to pork production and processing). IPPA is comprised of county pork producer groups in approximately 20 counties throughout Illinois. IPPA is an affiliate of the National Pork Producers Council and the National Pork Board.
